Job Overview

We invite qualified nurses to take on an engaging role in our Medical Acute Dependency Unit (MADU), a 16-bed facility equipped for full cardiac monitoring and non-invasive ventilation. Our unit provides level one and two care to patients with diverse conditions, including gastrointestinal bleeding, diabetic ketoacidosis, respiratory failure needing non-invasive ventilation, heart failure, severe electrolyte imbalances, and requires monitoring of central and arterial lines.

Candidate Profile

We seek a dynamic professional possessing excellent interpersonal communication, clinical experience in respiratory, acute medicine, emergency department, or high dependency/intensive care nursing, alongside some managerial and team leadership background. Enthusiasm for tending to critically ill medical patients is essential.

Core Responsibilities

Collaborate with senior interdisciplinary colleagues to maintain and enhance a responsive high dependency service. Lead and nurture the clinical nursing team to deliver optimal care adhering to national and local standards. Manage patient care plans including assessment, implementation, and evaluation during each shift, offering expert advice on acute patient changes. Embody a clinical role model promoting patient-centered approaches and demonstrating advanced theoretical and practical skills in managing complex, critical patients.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory:

  • Current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration
  • Completion of ENB 998 Teaching and Assessing or equivalent mentorship preparation
  • Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification

Preferred:

  • Degree-level nursing registration
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong interpersonal skills adept at managing challenging or stressful situations
  • Effective team leadership, influencing, time management, and delegation abilities
  • Capacity to prioritize workload for self and team, meeting deadlines efficiently
  • Up-to-date awareness of professional nursing developments and issues
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic healthcare environment

Special Conditions

  • Commitment to working flexible shifts including weekends and bank holidays

Experience Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in a High Dependency Unit setting, including care for patients requiring non-invasive ventilation (NIV)
