Job description
Overview
We are currently inviting applications for a Junior Clinical Fellow position within the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This full-time, fixed-term role offers the opportunity to enhance clinical expertise in a supportive setting, ideal for those aiming to progress towards specialty training pathways.
Team and Environment
This department is composed of five consultants, one higher surgical trainee, five specialty dentists, and five junior trust-grade dentists. It delivers a comprehensive range of acute and elective oral and maxillofacial services and serves as the largest head and neck cancer service provider in the region along with being the regional Major Trauma Centre. The unit also runs orthognathic and salivary gland services.
Responsibilities
- Provide care in both outpatient and inpatient settings across Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital, requiring work at both sites.
- Deliver support and daily patient care activities within a well-structured team.
- Engage in the oral and maxillofacial surgery junior on-call rota covering hours from 08:00 to 21:00, noting that night-time or overnight cover is excluded.
- After completing competency training, participate in minor oral surgery including local anesthesia and general anesthesia procedures.
- Contribute to audits and research initiatives actively supported by the department.
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities as the hospital encourages academic development.
