Trust Grade Doctor in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (Equivalent to DCT1/2 Level)

Position Overview

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMF) department at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Trust Grade doctor on a fixed-term basis for 12 months, commencing immediately. This role suits both medically or dentally qualified doctors eager to develop their expertise in OMF surgery. It is ideally suited for dental graduates with a minimum of two years' experience at DCT/SHO levels or medical graduates who have completed F1 and F2 training. Dually qualified doctors considering ST entry training in OMF surgery are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage patients with oral and maxillofacial conditions under senior supervision.
• Handle emergency referrals such as facial trauma and odontogenic infections.
• Provide inpatient care including ward rounds, documentation, and discharge planning.
• Participate actively in outpatient clinics and operating theatre sessions.
• Assist in minor and major surgical operations appropriate to experience.
• Join the on-call rota covering evenings, weekends, and bank holidays for emergency services.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members including consultants and nursing staff to ensure high standards of patient care.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical records.
• Request and interpret relevant investigations and prescribe medications safely per Trust policies.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Engage in departmental teaching, clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement projects.
• Uphold professional standards as guided by GMC and Trust regulations.
• Complete mandatory training and pursue continuous professional development.
• Perform other duties aligned with the post as assigned by senior staff.

Training and Support

Although not part of the formal OMF training programme, post holders will receive equivalent educational and training opportunities, including paid study leave, clinical and educational supervision, and portfolio development support through the active Postgraduate Medical Education Centre.
