Job description

Role Overview

The Head of Finance plays a pivotal role in offering strategic financial management oversight to specific Care Groups within the healthcare setting. They lead financial planning, reporting, and business development efforts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide and supervise the Care Group Financial Management Team, including Finance Managers and their deputies, ensuring team structure, qualifications, and training meet operational standards and client expectations.
  • Provide expert financial leadership and counsel to Care Group leaders, clinical staff, and directors to facilitate strategic and day-to-day decision-making.
  • Lead annual financial planning aligned with Trust objectives and targets; monitor performance, risk, and opportunities, prepare forecasts, and assist in financial recovery plans as necessary.
  • Oversee financial systems, controls, and governance to ensure integrity and efficiency; spearhead business case development and appraisal using NHS England’s Five Case Model for investments.
  • Manage budgets for Care Groups, authorize expenditures within delegation limits, comply with policies, and generate analytical financial reports supporting informed decisions.
  • Develop and mentor the Financial Management Team to foster high performance and continual improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and value.
  • Promote Service Line Reporting and regularly review Service Level Agreements to support service performance and advancement.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Directors, Integrated Care Boards, NHS England, and partners; provide financial support for various projects and senior meetings.
