Job description
Position Overview
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming seeks a visionary General Manager to lead Fort William Historical Park, one of North America's largest living history attractions situated in Northwestern Ontario. The Park draws visitors globally with immersive historical exhibitions, large-scale events, educational programs, conferences, hospitality services, an astronomical observatory, and a campground. It is also committed to fostering Indigenous partnerships by integrating First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and cultural contributions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversee daily operations to fulfill the Park's mission and uphold corporate values.
- Enhance tourism offerings in the region and elevate the area's reputation as a premier tourism destination.
- Coordinate and maintain strong relationships within the ministry’s tourism portfolio and with key heritage stakeholders.
- Champion reconciliation initiatives by incorporating Indigenous perspectives into programming and community engagement.
- Foster a culture emphasizing equity, inclusion, accessibility, employee well-being, and collaborative teamwork.
Qualifications and Expertise
- Proven executive leadership with ability to balance strategic direction and operational management, motivating multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic environment.
- Experienced in leading transformational change, promoting modernization and innovation with appropriate risk-taking.
- Highly skilled in political acuity, communication, negotiation, and consensus-building with senior leaders and government officials.
- Strong knowledge of heritage conservation principles, tourism operations, Indigenous engagement in cultural settings, marketing techniques, government regulations, and human resources management.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex workforce issues and foster talent development and retention.
