Position Summary
The Director of Media Relations and Social Media will spearhead strategies that elevate and safeguard the OMA’s reputation and brand. This pivotal role involves managing a team of media professionals, executing impactful media campaigns, and advancing the voice of Ontario doctors in the healthcare dialogue.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a dedicated team to design and implement effective media and social strategies that generate compelling narratives and strong editorial presence.
- Enhance the OMA’s media presence, positioning Ontario doctors as crucial contributors to patient care and health system innovation.
- Manage high-level issue and crisis communications to protect the organization's public standing.
- Oversee all media operations including strategy development, execution, evaluation, and vendor management.
- Maintain strong relationships with media professionals, ensuring timely and accurate information flow and arranging media briefings and spokesperson interviews.
- Coordinate media training and preparation for OMA spokespersons to ensure readiness for public interactions.
- Collaborate across teams to integrate media and social media plans aligned with organizational priorities.
- Develop advanced media research capabilities to gather insights and optimize communication strategies.
- Monitor healthcare and political news to anticipate impacts and identify media opportunities.
- Mentor and guide team members, fostering a positive and collaborative culture.
- Recruit, train, and support employees, providing feedback and growth opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, political science, public policy, communications, marketing, or related field with additional certification preferred.
- Extensive experience: 10+ years in media/media relations and 10+ years in communication, leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution.
- Experienced, empathetic leadership skills focused on team development.
Work Environment
This role operates in a permanent hybrid model, requiring regular presence at the Toronto office.
