Regional Director of Physical Plant

Position Overview

The Regional Director of Physical Plant is responsible for overseeing all physical plant operations, safety compliance, and maintenance programs across multiple nursing home facilities within a designated region. This pivotal role ensures that all buildings, grounds, and equipment uphold the highest standards to promote resident safety, comfort, and regulatory adherence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise maintenance managers and teams at the facility level, providing support and guidance.
• Develop and enforce regional maintenance policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency.
• Design and deliver training and mentorship to maintain uniform standards across all locations.
• Guarantee compliance with local, state, and federal regulations including CMS, OSHA, and life safety codes within all nursing home facilities.
• Oversee scheduling and execution of preventative maintenance for HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, and medical equipment.
• Coordinate routine inspections, audits, and implement corrective action plans as needed.
• Develop and manage annual maintenance budgets per facility, monitoring expenditures and performance.
• Work closely with executive leadership on planning and executing capital improvement projects.
• Negotiate with vendors, manage contracts, and cultivate relationships with external service providers.
• Establish disaster recovery strategies and emergency response procedures to prepare for fires, severe weather, power outages, and other emergencies.
• Ensure that facilities are properly equipped and that staff receive adequate training for emergency situations.
• Identify and implement energy efficiency projects and sustainability initiatives.
• Integrate technological solutions to enhance maintenance operations.
• Monitor and report key performance indicators related to maintenance activities to senior management.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Minimum of seven years of progressive leadership experience in maintenance, including at least three years managing multiple healthcare or senior living sites.
• Comprehensive knowledge of building systems, safety regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in budget management, capital projects, and vendor contract negotiations.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational capabilities.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the assigned regional area.
