About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned Director of Construction to oversee and enhance the operational performance of our construction department in Corpus Christi, TX. In this leadership role, you will guide Project Managers and the construction team to deliver projects that are profitable, meet high-quality standards, and exceed customer expectations while aligning with company values and departmental objectives. This position emphasizes leadership, strategy, and accountability, without direct management of individual projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily functions and overall success of the construction department.
- Coach, manage, and develop Project Managers and construction team members, setting clear performance expectations.
- Ensure adherence to company protocols and processes across the team.
- Track individual and department KPIs, addressing performance issues promptly.
- Conduct project, production, and financial review meetings regularly with Project Managers.
- Assess department capacity, staffing, subcontractor availability, and resources.
- Collaborate with the General Manager to establish goals and business priorities.
- Foster a culture emphasizing accountability, teamwork, customer service, and continuous improvement.
- Take full responsibility for departmental revenue, gross profit, production efficiency, and operational outcomes.
- Supervise project financials through ongoing reporting and reviews to maintain profitability.
- Enforce budget, schedule, documentation, and profit margin compliance.
- Review estimates, supplements, change orders, and financials for accuracy and margin protection.
- Identify problems in project performance and develop corrective action strategies with Project Managers.
- Seek continual improvements in workflows, quality, and financial results.
- Provide Project Managers with oversight throughout the construction lifecycle ensuring accurate scopes, budgets, contracts, permits, and compliance with regulations.
- Monitor project timelines, costs, quality, customer satisfaction, and documentation completeness.
- Handle escalated project issues and guide problem resolution.
- Conduct site visits and inspections for quality assurance and project progress evaluation.
- Manage subcontractor and vendor networks, including evaluating, negotiating with, and holding them accountable for pricing, quality, safety, timeliness, and documentation.
- Ensure sufficient subcontractor coverage for production demands.
- Set and uphold customer experience standards, assisting Project Managers in communication and customer issue escalation.
- Oversee warranty claims management and resolution.
- Support initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction, generate referrals, and strengthen the company’s reputation.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years in construction management or operations.
- Proven leadership experience managing Project Managers and construction departments or similar units.
- Preferred experience in restoration, reconstruction, insurance repairs, or disaster recovery.
- Demonstrated expertise managing personnel, financials, subcontractors, and operational performance.
- Strong knowledge of estimating, scoping, supplements, change orders, contracts, permitting, scheduling, and project execution.
- Proven leadership skills with a track record in enhancing team performance and safeguarding project profitability.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and department needs effectively.
- Comfortable analyzing financial reports, KPIs, and project metrics.
