Job description

Overview

Barts Health’s Education Academy is growing to meet the needs of increasing student and trainee numbers, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality teaching and supervision. The programme is designed to strengthen its faculty of Specialty Teaching Fellows, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate education as well as inter-professional innovation.

The role sits within the TB and Respiratory team and is based in London. It is a 0.8 whole-time equivalent post, with 32 hours worked across four days. Time is split evenly between clinical service and educational duties.

Barts Health Simulation Service operates four dedicated Simulation and Essential Clinical Skills Centres located at Newham University Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and the Royal London. These centres are established teaching environments with fully equipped simulation, clinical skills, and haptic skills facilities.

Role Purpose

The appointed fellow will focus on expanding educational opportunities for undergraduate medical students through multiple teaching approaches, including simulation, clinical skills teaching, lectures, teaching clinics, and bedside teaching. The post also involves working across sites with other education fellows to support activity at additional centres and to help deliver simulation-based education for other specialties.

This role will also contribute to the distributive simulation programme and play a key part in supporting IMT simulation and clinical skills delivery across all sites.

Development and Training

All fellows are welcomed into the Education Forum, which provides access to a structured development programme. Fellows are encouraged to undertake a PG Cert in Education. Where a PG Cert has already been completed, there may be an opportunity to pursue the ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management course. Funding support will be available for development opportunities.
