Job description

Overview

This Specialist Registrar (ST3+) role at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester offers a 6-month fixed-term placement in Adult Cardiac Surgery, with potential extension. The successful candidate will serve as a Cardiothoracic Registrar, collaborating with peers to deliver a full-time equivalent position as part of the cardiac surgery service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage patients with both acute and chronic cardiac conditions.
  • Perform clerking of new admissions and conduct daily ward patient reviews.
  • Take part in consultant-led ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical documentation and complete discharge summaries.
  • Engage in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and governance activities.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring to junior doctors, medical students, and allied health professionals.
  • Participate in relevant research projects and contribute to publications.
  • Fulfill commitments on registrar on-call rota, currently scheduled at 1:7 subject to change.
  • Adhere to General Medical Council (GMC) and Trust standards and clinical protocols.
  • Gain experience in a high-volume tertiary cardiac service setting.

Experience and Eligibility

Candidates must have a minimum of two years' experience at Registrar level or an equivalent post. This position includes involvement in on-call duties and expects commitment to both clinical and academic aspects of cardiac surgery.
