Position Overview and Location
This opportunity is based at the Goddard School located at 9739 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. Candidates should confirm that this location is suitable before applying.
Role Summary
The Area Curriculum Director supervises program and curricular operations across multiple facilities. The role may also involve business-related activities as assigned by the franchise owner. This is a salaried position with compensation dependent on qualifications and experience.
General Qualifications
- Hearing capability for conversational voices, with or without hearing devices
- Visual ability to read print materials, aided or unaided
- Verbal communication skills sufficient for clear understanding
- Physical ability to use limbs and evacuate premises during emergencies
- Competent to manage crises, especially those involving children
- Prompt responsiveness to emergency scenarios
- Prior management experience in licensed childcare centers or supervising faculty/staff
Educational Requirements
Candidates must fulfill one or more of the following, including any state or local licensing mandates:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development plus management experience in a licensed childcare or preschool
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field with at least 18 semester hours (including 12 hours related to children birth to 8 years) plus childcare management experience
- Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development or related field with one year (1560 hours) experience in licensed childcare and one year management experience
- Associate degree or higher in a related field with 18 hours coursework related to children birth to age 8, two years (3120 hours) childcare experience and one year management experience
- Current CDA or Early Childhood Teaching Credential with 12 additional semester hours or CEUs in related children coursework, two years (3120 hours) childcare experience, and one year management experience
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Duties
- Plan and schedule administrative tasks
- Maintain accurate records per state and GSI standards (e.g., files for children and faculty)
- Prepare reports and manage faculty schedules
- Review employee handbook annually
- Implement health programs including collaborating with health consultants
- Maintain lists of support agencies and pediatric healthcare providers
- Conduct mandatory disaster drills in line with state and organizational standards
- Ensure ongoing compliance with GSI QA standards and manage school inventories
- Support communication through Directors' Corner and professional growth programming
Fiscal Management
- Manage school operations within budget constraints
- Define and oversee faculty maintenance systems, including repairs
- Handle payroll budget, petty cash, and registration budget
- Procure classroom equipment, supplies, and snacks
Licensing Compliance
- Foster positive relationships with licensing officials
- Maintain current licensing documentation and regulatory adherence
Personnel Management
- Recruit, interview, hire, and manage faculty members
- Schedule faculty, conduct orientations, and perform reviews (90-day and annual)
- Lead monthly faculty meetings and maintain substitute teacher lists
- Maintain faculty files and coordinate biannual in-service meetings
- Arrange first aid, CPR, and emergency preparedness training
Program and Professional Development
- Conduct monthly classroom observations
- Stay updated on early childhood development research
- Manage resource libraries and professional development programs
- Encourage active involvement in professional organizations and conferences
Curriculum Development
- Maintain appropriate classroom ratios and implement developmentally suitable curricula aligned with local school districts
- Integrate GSI curriculum resources, monthly thematic plans, and yearly calendars
- Schedule shared spaces and ensure accurate record keeping
- Assist faculty with lesson planning and conduct regular reviews of plans and children’s portfolios
- Implement classroom management systems, visitor programs, nutritious snacks, transition systems, and playground safety
- Hold curriculum meetings three times annually
Sales and Marketing
- Welcome school visitors and conduct tours using standardized procedures
- Manage telephone inquiries with approved scripts
- Follow up with potential families and enroll new students
- Maintain effective parent communications and conduct meetings as necessary
- Organize community relations activities, including a minimum of four outreach programs
- Coordinate student teaching programs
