Role Summary
The Vice President of Strategic Investments is a senior leadership position accountable for strategic investment management, capital allocation, and fostering business growth. This role oversees the strategic investment planning process, evaluating investment opportunities, managing capital operations, leading mergers and acquisitions, and administering portfolio management.
Reporting typically to the CEO, CSO, CFO, CIO, or Board of Directors, the VP conducts industry trend research, identifies strategic opportunities, formulates investment strategies, drives M&A activities, and builds an investment ecosystem that propels business expansion, industrial positioning, and long-term value creation.
As a vital connector between corporate strategy, capital markets, and business development, the VP is responsible for aligning capital and resource deployment with corporate strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive medium- and long-term strategic investment plans, along with annual investment agendas.
- Set investment priorities and directions in accordance with corporate growth strategies.
- Create frameworks, standards, and decision-making mechanisms for strategic investments.
- Provide counsel on investment strategies to executive leadership and board members.
- Conduct detailed industry research, market and competitor analysis to pinpoint aligned investment opportunities.
- Assess commercial value, market prospects, and growth potential of potential investments.
- Implement systems to screen and prioritize investment opportunities effectively.
- Lead mergers & acquisitions, strategic investments, and equity cooperation initiatives.
- Manage transaction design, due diligence, negotiations, and cross-functional coordination for investments.
- Drive post-investment integration and implementation efforts.
- Develop investment evaluation models analyzing ROI, IRR, cash flow, and associated risks.
- Prepare investment recommendation reports to support management-level decision-making.
- Identify strategic partnerships, industry resources, and foster ecosystem opportunities.
- Facilitate strategic alliances, joint ventures, and promote synergy among industry players.
- Oversee the strategic investment portfolio, monitoring performance and value changes.
- Formulate strategies for exit, follow-on investments, or portfolio adjustments to maximize value.
- Establish investment risk assessment, control frameworks and ensure compliance throughout processes.
- Manage risk identification across market, financial, operational, and strategic domains.
- Collaborate across finance, legal, strategy, and operations departments to integrate resources and advance project execution.
- Support synergy realization post-merger and translate investments into commercial outcomes.
- Recruit and develop a professional strategic investment team including investment managers, analysts, and M&A experts.
- Instill a culture of high-standard investment analysis and sound decision-making.
- Enhance organizational capital operation capabilities and investment expertise.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in finance, economics, investment management, business administration, financial management, or related disciplines.
- Advanced degrees such as MBA or Master of Finance, and professional credentials like CFA or CPA are preferred.
- Over 20 years of experience in strategic investment, investment banking, private equity, corporate development, or capital operations.
- Between 8 to 15 years in senior investment management roles including VP of Strategic Investments, Investment Director, or Corporate Development Director.
- Demonstrated experience investing within large enterprises, investment firms, multinational corporations, or industrial groups.
- Proven expertise in mergers and acquisitions, equity investment, strategic cooperation, and corporate expansion strategies.
