Job Overview

The Vice President of Project Planning and Strategy holds a senior leadership role responsible for directing strategic project planning, deploying key enterprise projects, and developing systems for strategic execution. This role involves setting project development strategies aligned with long-term organizational goals, establishing project planning systems, optimizing project portfolios, and ensuring key initiatives support overall corporate strategy. Reporting to executive leadership such as the CEO or SVPs, the role emphasizes strategic prioritization, resource distribution, risk mitigation, and fostering interdepartmental collaboration to guarantee successful delivery of strategic projects. This position is essential in large-scale corporations including multinational firms, technology companies, engineering and manufacturing enterprises, and rapidly growing organizations.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive project strategies including medium and long-term plans linked to corporate objectives.
• Establish and manage enterprise-wide project portfolio systems covering strategic, investment, transformation, and business development projects.
• Create standardized project planning processes, evaluation protocols, and governance frameworks to elevate project management maturity.
• Conduct analyses on project commercial viability, costs, risks, and ROI to guide investment and resource allocation decisions.
• Oversee project implementation, tracking progress against goals, identifying risks, and ensuring timely, quality delivery.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams spanning operations, product development, R&D, finance, marketing, supply chain, and business units to integrate resources and resolve execution challenges.
• Develop systems for identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks while continuously refining project management practices.
• Build and mentor a strategic project management team, cultivating leadership talent and fostering a culture focused on project excellence and strategic execution.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in project management, engineering management, business administration, strategic management, operations management, or closely related disciplines.
• Advanced degrees such as an MBA or Master in Project Management are preferred.
• Professional certifications like PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, or PMI-ACP are advantageous.
• A minimum of 20 years of experience in project management, strategic planning, operations, or transformational business roles.
• At least 6 years in executive-level positions such as VP of Project Management, PMO Director, Program or Strategic Project Director.
• Proven experience leading projects within large enterprises, multinational companies, or intricate project ecosystems.
• Demonstrated expertise in strategic project planning, handling major investments, or driving digital transformation initiatives.
