About the Company
Teamshares is a leading American organization focused on acquiring small businesses from retiring owners and championing employee ownership as the future of small enterprise. By purchasing promising companies, Teamshares immediately grants employees a 10% ownership interest and supports their growth with proprietary technology, education, financial services, and expert leadership guidance. The vision involves building a network of 10,000 employee-owned businesses, generating $10 billion in stock wealth for workers and ensuring continuity for communities and retiring entrepreneurs.
Role Overview
The role involves leading growth for a well-established, ethical, sustainable apparel company near Ann Arbor, Michigan. This business produces high-quality products committed to environmental respect and social responsibility, operating a complex supply chain grounded in these values. The President will strategically expand the company's reach, especially by growing the direct-to-consumer (D2C) channel, leveraging strong marketing experience and full profit and loss accountability. The position requires a Michigan-based leader working closely with employee owners who maintain high accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as President with full accountability for profit and loss, strategic leadership, and daily operations, reporting to an industry lead overseeing multiple companies.
- Drive revenue by expanding marketing efforts, outreach, new product development, and growing new accounts, focusing on broadening D2C sales.
- Develop and implement scalable business processes and document effective operational methods, tracking key metrics and financial performance.
- Collaborate with financial teams to manage expenses, capital investments, and initiatives that support growth objectives.
- Engage with employee-owners to enhance operations and unlock new revenue streams, leveraging the company’s solid operational foundation.
- Oversee human resources activities including conflict resolution, performance appraisals, compensation reviews, and employee development.
- Foster strong relationships within the Michigan community, including customers, suppliers, vendors, and mission-aligned partners.
- Guide the transition to employee ownership alongside Teamshares and shareholders, cultivating an owner’s mindset and a positive, values-driven culture.
Candidate Qualifications
- A strong personal alignment with sustainability, fair trade, transparency, and ethical business practices, capable of authentically representing these values.
- Demonstrated success in scaling a direct-to-consumer brand from low to high double-digit millions in revenue, preferably with full P&L responsibility.
- Extensive marketing expertise with a proven ability to enhance brand awareness, customer loyalty, and product reach for ethical consumer goods.
- In-depth understanding of complex supply chains that emphasize values-driven partnerships and operations.
- An entrepreneurial attitude with hands-on experience driving innovation and transformation within a business environment.
- Strong leadership proficiency with excellent interpersonal skills, humility, and a collaborative style.
- Strong business analysis capabilities, financial oversight, and strategic planning focused on sustainable growth.
- Effective project management skills combined with a results-oriented, proactive mindset.
- A commitment to continuous learning, creativity, and adaptability with a bias toward action.
- Must be based in or willing to work onsite in Michigan.
Compensation and Benefits
- Equity ownership stakes in both the apparel company and Teamshares.
- Competitive salary and benefit packages.
- Regular business and leadership development opportunities.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- Paid parental leave.
