Role overview
Teign Ward is a 30-bed inpatient ward at Newton Abbot Community Hospital. The unit supports people recovering from an acute illness and treatment in the acute hospital, as well as patients admitted directly by their GP. Care provided on the ward includes rehabilitation and end-of-life support.
This is a role where you can build meaningful relationships with patients over time, contribute to personalised treatment plans, and support people in regaining everyday function where possible. The service also helps reduce avoidable hospital admissions through specialist care.
You will receive support with your development through in-house learning, external courses, regular supervision and appraisals designed to help you grow to your full potential.

Key duties
- Provide safe, high-quality clinical support for allocated patients while working under the indirect supervision of a registered nurse or practitioner.
- Carry out clinical duties efficiently and competently, including cannulation and venepuncture.
- Measure and interpret adult vital signs accurately.
- Recognise when concerns need escalating and make appropriate referrals to Adult and Child Safeguarding teams.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues throughout shifts to maintain smooth and safe ward operations.
- Communicate with the wider multidisciplinary team to support patient safety.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the service as part of the wider ward team.
- Take part in conversations and projects that improve outcomes for the team, patients and the unit.
- Work in partnership with the senior nursing team and the Matron, following their direction and guidance.
- Adhere to Trust policies and protocols to help maintain a safe ward environment.
Hours and arrangement
The post is available in two options: one full-time role of 37.50 hours and one part-time role of 30 hours.
