About the Role
We are offering a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic Physiotherapist to advance into a specialist role focusing on respiratory care within the inpatient physiotherapy team at Torbay Hospital. This developmental Band 5 to Band 6 position is intended for those who are passionate about respiratory physiotherapy and eager to progress into a specialist post. Initial appointment will be at Band 5, with progression to a Band 6 Highly Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist after approximately 12 months of guided development and achievement of a competency framework.
Experienced Band 5 Physiotherapists ready for Band 6 positions are also encouraged to apply for current specialist Band 6 respiratory roles with the same developmental opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Deliver physiotherapy assessment and treatment across various clinical settings including acute respiratory wards, surgical services, intensive care units, emergency care, paediatric care, outpatient respiratory clinics, pulmonary rehabilitation, and community/home-based respiratory services.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to support patient recovery, encourage independence, and enable safe discharge planning.
- Participate in a seven-day service covering occasional weekend shifts (approximately once monthly).
- Engage in respiratory on-call duties following competency acquisition.
- Contribute to clinical education, supervision, quality improvement initiatives, audits, and service development projects.

Work alongside experienced Band 6 and Band 7 clinicians to gain expertise across acute and specialist respiratory services and advance clinical, leadership, and management skills.
