Candidates with a keen interest in urology and breast oncology are preferred; however, other tumour site specializations in addition to urology will also be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant will collaborate closely with the existing oncology team to support various functions including research, clinical governance, peer review processes, auditing, and the education and supervision of junior medical staff and students. Participation in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) aligned with College requirements is expected. Clinical responsibilities involve managing outpatient clinics, overseeing day case cancer treatments, and contributing to acute oncology services for unplanned cancer care.
- Manage and take responsibility for a specific tumour site workload.
- Engage in medical leadership and drive innovations within the oncology services.
- Provide training and mentorship to non-consultant grade doctors in the unit.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration within the department and hospital.

- Participate in clinical audit programs, both departmental and multidisciplinary.
- Contribute actively to oncology research and innovative clinical practice.
Team and Environment
The post-holder will join a dedicated group of consultants and specialty doctors at Torbay Hospital who collectively provide comprehensive non-surgical cancer services supported by experienced nursing staff and clinical trials teams. The oncology unit operates from a single site with advanced facilities including two linear accelerators and a chemotherapy day unit.
