Role Overview
This senior leadership position as Global Head of Financial Crimes Compliance involves architecting the company’s overarching strategy to counter financial crimes. The incumbent will empower MLROs and Compliance Officers worldwide through development and deployment of cutting-edge, technology-driven frameworks and unified policies. Alongside scalable compliance tools, this role sets the global standards, ensuring local teams meet regulatory demands, audits, and inspections effectively.
Core Responsibilities
- Create and enforce a group-wide AML/CFT control framework that fits Nium's diverse payment offerings, balancing consistent risk tolerance with local legal requirements.
- Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to develop and maintain a unified global compliance technology stack, including proprietary and vendor KYC, screening, and advanced AI/ML transaction monitoring solutions.
- Keep updated on industry tools and vendors for financial crimes compliance; lead selection and evaluation of vendors focusing on quality, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Oversee global and regional risk evaluations, manage complex investigations, and monitor Suspicious Transaction Report filings.
- Build and lead a multinational, efficient compliance team fostering a culture of open communication, escalation, and mutual respect.
- Continuously enhance KYC/CDD/EDD processes and analytics to maintain effective controls amidst rapid business growth.
Requirements
- Minimum of 12 years in senior compliance roles at global payments companies, fintechs, or international banking institutions.
- Deep knowledge of financial crime regulations worldwide including Payment Services Act, BSA/USA PATRIOT Act, and cross-border payment standards.
- Extensive experience (15+ years) transitioning from manual compliance toward scalable, automated systems and workflows.
- Proven capacity to influence and guide a matrixed organization with regionally accountable MLROs adopting global best practices.
- Strong fintech knowledge including rapid payments, cryptocurrency integrations, and digital onboarding methods.
- Expertise in crisis management as a key escalation point for intricate multinational financial crime cases.
