Job Overview
The Waste Management Technician role is focused on the responsible, effective, and compliant processing and disposal of liquid and hazardous waste. This position supports Carnival Corporation's global destinations by ensuring compliance with regulations, company guidelines, and environmental standards to protect people, property, and the ecosystem. The position requires managing waste streams carefully, segregating materials correctly, and maintaining safety standards in storage and labeling.
Core Responsibilities
- Support onsite collection and processing of waste materials.
- Handle hazardous wastes through testing, classification, bulking, lab packing, and preparing shipping documentation.
- Plan and organize waste-related activities and setups as needed.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot various electrical, mechanical, and heavy equipment, ensuring equipment safety and functionality.
- Enforce the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety gear among staff onsite.
- Adhere to all waste disposal compliance and safety protocols, report any issues promptly.
- Document inspections, investigations, or incident reports thoroughly.
- Provide first aid support if the situation arises.
- Deliver training sessions and suggest procedural improvements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or GED; equivalent experience accepted.
- Technical or waste management certification mandatory.
- At least 2 years of technical maintenance experience within hotel or related environments.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Effective multitasking, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
Language and Physical Requirements
- Proficient conversational English and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Physically fit and able to stand for long durations.
- Capable of working outdoors when required.
