About Arana College

Established in 1943, Te Whare o Arana (Arana College) is one of fifteen residential colleges managed by the University of Otago. It offers a high-quality collegiate experience to 342 students, ensuring a safe and supportive environment throughout the year. Role Overview

The Tautiaki/Warden position is a leadership role responsible for delivering an effective and efficient college experience for residents and the broader community. The Warden's primary focus is to assist residents to achieve their highest academic aspirations while facilitating opportunities for cultural, sporting, and personal growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership and management to the college community.
  • Oversee the operation and ensure efficient management of college activities and services.
  • Support resident wellbeing including managing complex situations related to mental health and welfare.
  • Manage a significant budget alongside administrative responsibilities.
  • Create and enhance additional revenue streams like meeting room rental, hospitality, and conferences.
  • Contribute to wider departmental projects and initiatives.
  • Exercise practical negotiation and influence skills when needed.
  • Maintain calmness and professionalism during challenging circumstances.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, permanent, live-in role requiring residency in University-provided accommodation, for which an allowance will compensate. The remuneration package includes on-call responsibilities with a salary range between $107,320 and $115,834; the maximum is $124,348. The University adheres to the Vulnerable Children Act 2014, and candidates reaching final recruitment stages will undergo a police safety check.
