Job Overview
We are seeking dedicated Civil Enforcement Officers to patrol streets and car parks throughout Cornwall, ensuring parking regulations are upheld impartially and effectively. This position involves issuing Penalty Charge Notices where warranted, offering guidance to motorists, as well as assisting in broader community safety initiatives including school monitoring, community event support, and abandoned vehicle investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine patrols enforcing parking rules and encouraging compliance.
- Engage with the public by providing clear advice and support on parking policies.
- Investigate and issue Penalty Charge Notices as required, ensuring fair application of rules.
- Comply with health and safety protocols by properly using safety equipment and aiding colleagues during incidents.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to maintain service standards and consistency.
- Participate actively in service improvement initiatives to boost quality and efficiency.
- Support additional duties such as equipment maintenance, abandoned vehicle checks, and environmental monitoring.
Work Conditions
This role is physically demanding, requiring extensive walking, standing, and outdoor work in varied weather conditions. Officers must be able to work independently, handle safety equipment confidently, and maintain professionalism in challenging encounters.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience engaging with the public or community groups.
- Possession of a full UK driving licence.
- Strong communication skills demonstrating clear and calm explanations.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
- Willingness to complete City & Guilds Level 2 Civil Parking Enforcement qualification within six months.
- Resilience and professionalism when managing demanding situations.
- Good physical fitness to walk and stand for lengthy periods.
- Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or higher or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of enforcement practices or parking legislation is advantageous but not mandatory.
Working Hours & Salary
- Full-time contract for 37 hours per week based on a rotating schedule including weekends, evenings, and bank holidays.
- Working hours contracted between 8am and 8pm with options for predominantly evenings, nights, or weekends.
- Starting salary at £26,597 with additional pay for Sundays, bank holidays, and scheduled shifts.
- An accelerated salary raise to £28,567 upon successful probation and qualification completion, typically within six months.
- Further incremental increases up to £31,869 available annually.
