Job description

Role overview

A growing commercial real estate owner-operator is hiring a Vice President of Property Management to lead and strengthen its internal property management platform. Reporting to the CEO and COO, this executive will manage day-to-day property operations while putting the systems, structure, and leadership in place to support the company’s expansion.

This position is a high-visibility leadership opportunity for someone who excels in entrepreneurial settings, enjoys building scalable processes, develops talented teams, and is committed to operational excellence. The right candidate will combine deep commercial property management knowledge with executive leadership strength and a strategic, business-oriented mindset.

Experience in retail commercial real estate is preferred, and advanced Yardi expertise is required.

Executive leadership and strategy

  • Work alongside the CEO and COO to shape operating strategy and performance objectives for the portfolio.
  • Lead the property management organization and establish repeatable processes and operating standards that can scale with growth.
  • Foster a workplace culture built on accountability, teamwork, and ongoing improvement.
  • Set KPIs, reporting expectations, and operating practices that support long-term business growth.
  • Act as a senior advisor and active member of the executive leadership team.

Property management leadership

  • Manage a portfolio of commercial assets with a focus on strong operations, tenant experience, and asset protection.
  • Direct, coach, and develop Property Managers while encouraging performance, ownership, and professional growth.
  • Ensure reliable execution of maintenance planning, capital projects, inspections, risk controls, and everyday property operations.
  • Improve tenant retention through responsive service and proactive relationship management.

Financial and operational performance

  • Oversee annual budgets, forecasts, capital spending, and operating expense management.
  • Review CAM reconciliations, tenant billing, rent collection, delinquency activity, and portfolio-level financial results.
  • Study operational and financial trends to uncover ways to improve efficiency and asset performance.
  • Partner with accounting, leasing, ownership, and leadership teams to help maximize portfolio value.

Lease administration and compliance

  • Provide executive oversight of commercial lease administration, including amendments, renewals, assignments, estoppels, SNDAs, and related legal documents.
  • Review lease terms, confirm compliance, and identify operational, financial, and legal exposures.
  • Keep lease abstracts and supporting documentation accurate and current in Yardi.
  • Coordinate with leasing teams, legal counsel, ownership, and tenants on lease-related matters.

Reporting and process improvement

  • Create executive reporting materials that deliver clear insight into portfolio performance.
  • Build standardized dashboards, operating metrics, delinquency reports, tenant retention analytics, and financial reporting tools.
  • Develop and roll out policies, procedures, and workflows that improve consistency, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Protect the quality and accuracy of property, operational, and financial data.

Relationship management

  • Maintain strong working relationships with tenants, investors, ownership groups, lenders, contractors, attorneys, and vendors.
  • Represent ownership at the senior operational level for portfolio performance matters.
  • Handle complex tenant and operational issues with professionalism, sound judgment, and a solutions-first mindset.

Candidate profile

The ideal hire is a collaborative yet hands-on executive leader who can balance strategic thinking with daily operational engagement. They should be able to build structure, improve processes, and lift organizational performance in a growing environment. Strong financial and analytical ability, attention to detail, high integrity, professionalism, and executive presence are important. A confident communicator who earns trust with executives, ownership, tenants, lenders, and outside partners will fit best.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is mandatory.
  • At least 10 years of commercial property management experience, including leadership of teams.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching and developing strong property management teams.
  • Solid experience managing commercial real estate portfolios; retail exposure is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Yardi experience covering reporting, lease administration, and property operations.
  • Strong grasp of commercial leases, CAM reconciliations, budgeting, financial reporting, and capital planning.
  • Experience producing executive-level reports and presenting portfolio performance to senior leaders.
  • Strong business judgment and the ability to balance operations with strategy.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership capabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license required, with travel to properties in the portfolio as needed.
