Role overview
The Trade Finance Executive will provide comprehensive operational support for trade finance processing, with a primary focus on import and export products. The position covers both Commercial and Global Banking as well as Structured and Commodities client segments. It requires working closely with internal teams and customers to keep transactions moving efficiently, maintain strong risk controls, and comply with internal procedures and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Commercial and Global Banking segment
- Process import and export trade finance instruments such as documents under Letters of Credit (LC), Usance Payable at Sight (UPAS LC), documents under collection, and open account financing.
- Manage a client portfolio and ensure transactions are handled accurately and on time.
- Support remedial management activities related to non-performing loans, including coordination and documentation.
- Guide clients on financing options, loan structures, and repayment arrangements.
- Track loans nearing expiry and upcoming repayment dates to help ensure acceptance and settlement happen on schedule.
- Review customer loan eligibility and respond promptly to client queries.
- Carry out transaction reviews in the Trade Registry system for items falling within Trade Finance Reporting (TFR) limits.
- Coordinate with the Trade Hub Team at Head Office.
Structured and Commodities segment
- Support the processing of import and export trade finance products including documents under LC, UPAS LC, documents under collection, open account financing, risk participation, and FI trade loans.
- Work with the Middle Office team to complete commodity trade finance deals in line with policy requirements.
- Check that funds are available and sufficient for both inbound and outbound transactions to maintain accuracy and timeliness.
- Monitor outstanding bills and follow up to secure prompt settlement.
- Perform AML screening on transactions and escalate any suspicious or unusual activity.
- Conduct vessel movement checks using Lloyd’s screening to verify shipment existence and confirm vessels do not pass through sanctioned ports.
- Run International Maritime Bureau (IMB) checks to validate the authenticity of bills of lading.
- Review the Trade Registry system for transactions that must be reported under TFR.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Business, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in trade finance operations within a banking setting.
- Working knowledge of import-export products and trade finance documentation.
- Solid understanding of trade finance instruments and applicable regulatory obligations.
- Strong attention to detail, with good analytical thinking and risk evaluation skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities for customer-facing work and collaboration across teams.
- Capability to manage time well and handle multiple priorities under pressure.
