Assistant Manager / Manager, Middle Office

Role Overview

This role sits within the Middle Office team and supports the commodity trade business by monitoring document flows to ensure they comply with approved credit terms. The position also involves reviewing trade documents and related support papers for accuracy and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and route trade requests for approval or noting.
• Manage an assigned portfolio of commodity trade borrowers.
• Process and oversee letters of credit, including back-to-back LC, front-to-back LC, LC backed by export collections, and LC tied to open-account sales.
• Match and transfer the required documents, while tracking acceptances and rejections for import and export settlements.
• Coordinate and supervise the switching of bills of lading within the approvals stated in the AA and transaction request.
• Instruct operations teams to apply export proceeds toward settlement of the related import LC or financing, where relevant.
• Track transaction requests and ensure document handling and settlement are completed within SLA timelines.
• Work closely with business unit teams, credit/investment teams, and FIG teams.
• Communicate transaction outcomes to customers.
• Prepare regular and ad hoc control reports for commodity trade accounts.
• Compile trade finance transaction conduct review material, including operations team input, for submission when requested.
• Carry out price checks for commodity trade accounts.
• Assess transaction price and currency risk using mark-to-market valuation.
• Follow up on any MTM shortfall in line with credit, SPI, and product paper requirements.
• Support the collection and release of cash collateral connected to transaction processing.
• Verify all LC documents against compliance requirements.

Requirements

• A degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, such as Banking, Business, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in trade finance operations, including 2 to 3 years in commodity trade finance middle office work.
• Strong analytical and communication abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple internal and external stakeholders, including customers, in day-to-day transaction processing.
• Comfort working as part of a team, with a positive approach, professionalism, strong work ethic, integrity, and ethics.
• Ability to identify patterns, connections, and potential red flags in complex trade finance situations.
• Willingness to participate in trade finance projects and initiatives, including product changes, operational changes, and system implementation.
• Good knowledge of the latest UCP, ISP98, and ISPB versions is an advantage.
