About the Role
Join the Institute for Circular Resource Engineering and Management at Hamburg University of Technology as a Research Associate focused on circular economy innovations. This full-time or part-time fixed-term position until September 2029 offers the chance to be a vital contributor to sustainable bioprocess development and to pursue a PhD with significant environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the creation, enhancement, and evaluation of advanced bio-based materials from underutilized organic streams.
- Apply sophisticated modeling and simulation tools to design and optimize biorefinery processes for efficient production of sustainable materials.
- Plan and execute experimental work related to methanation, green hydrogen, and algae cultivation projects.
- Develop competitive research proposals for national and international funding opportunities.
- Provide supervision and mentorship to bachelor’s and master’s students involved in related research.
Candidate Profile
Mandatory: A master’s degree or equivalent in Process Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a closely related discipline.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Practical laboratory experience with sound knowledge in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific methods.
- Proficiency in process simulation, optimization, and scale-up using software such as Aspen Plus, MATLAB, or Python.
- Experience with fermentation and biogas production processes.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with professional fluency in both English and German (written and spoken).
