About the Institute
The Institute of Photonics at Hamburg University of Technology conducts pioneering research in nanophotonics, metasurfaces, and nanoscale light-matter interactions. Their work integrates advanced nanofabrication, optical spectroscopy, and theoretical design to develop active and nonlinear photonic nanostructures utilizing plasmonic, dielectric, and two-dimensional material platforms. Research themes include tunable metasurfaces, exciton-photon coupling, nonlinear optical effects, and nanoscale light sources.
Position Summary
We seek a dedicated postdoctoral researcher experienced in tunable nanophotonics, ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy, and nonlinear optics. The appointment is for 18 months starting November 1, 2026, on a full-time, fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will develop and apply ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy to manipulate light localization and explore light-matter interactions at femtosecond timescales, collaborating closely with graduate students and international research partners.
Responsibilities
- Design and fabricate nanophotonic devices tailored for dynamic metasurface applications.
- Conduct complex optical spectroscopy, including ultrafast pump-probe experiments.
- Develop, construct, and maintain optical experimental setups.
- Perform electromagnetic simulations and analyze collected experimental data.
- Contribute to collaborative scientific projects and provide mentorship to graduate students.
Requirements
- Completed advanced university studies (Master's degree or equivalent) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related disciplines.
- PhD degree in a relevant field such as Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science.
- Demonstrated expertise in ultrafast dynamics of exciton-polaritons, both theoretical and practical.
- Experience designing and constructing momentum-resolved spectroscopy or microscopy setups, preferably built from scratch.
- Preferably skilled in two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES) experiments.
- Strong organizational and communication capabilities to manage laboratory resources and coordinate collaborative research efforts.
