Role Overview
The Personal Care Assistant or Home Support Worker role is embedded within community home care programs, designed to help clients maintain independence within their homes. This role involves delivering a broad spectrum of services tailored to clients assessed at various care levels, performed mostly in private residences and occasionally in community settings, following individual care plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide assistance with household chores in client homes, such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, changing linen, laundry, and bathroom cleaning.
- Support clients with personal care activities like showering and toileting (Personal Care Assistant only).
- Accompany clients on shopping trips and errands.
- Facilitate transport and enable community access as needed.
- Engage and communicate effectively with clients and their families or other relevant parties.
- Observe and promptly report any changes in clients’ physical, emotional, or behavioral condition in accordance with MiCare protocols.
- Maintain effective communication channels with all stakeholders, escalating critical issues to Service Coordination or Team Leader promptly.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Certificate III in Individual Support or Aged Care (mandatory for Personal Care Assistant role).
- Willingness to undergo a police background check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Valid driver's license, with a comprehensively insured and roadworthy vehicle.
- Proof of current influenza and comprehensive COVID-19 vaccinations.
- Access to a smartphone and a computer or similar device.
- Understanding of the aging process and experience in elder care within community settings.
- Ability to travel locally and show flexibility to meet client and organizational requirements.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality service and accurate documentation.
- Capability to work independently with occasional guidance as needed.
- Demonstrate a flexible, compassionate, and professional demeanor.
- Computer literacy, including use of smart devices for recording care notes and managing schedules according to MiCare procedures.
- Fluency in an additional language besides English is advantageous.
