Job description
About the Role
Dovida Ireland offers an important role in their Enhanced Home Support Service based in Malahide, aimed at assisting individuals with spinal cord injuries and complex physical requirements to live independently at home instead of hospitals or nursing facilities. As a Home Healthcare Assistant in this program, you partner with the same clients regularly, becoming familiar with their care needs and providing essential skilled support.
Training will be provided from the beginning, allowing carers without specialist experience to develop expertise gradually under professional supervision.
Compensation and Work Details
- Hourly pay ranges from €14.65 to €20.70, with higher rates on Sundays as a premium pay.
- Options to work full-time or part-time shifts, commonly split into morning and evening visits for the same client.
- Work is performed generally alongside another carer, ensuring mutual support and safety.
- Thorough paid training program including online courses, face-to-face workshops, and supervised client training led by registered nurses.
- Carers are only assigned tasks they have been formally trained and approved to perform.
- Opportunities exist for skill enhancement and career progression to senior positions.
- A collaborative and respectful team environment focused on meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow individualized care plans for each client precisely.
- Provide personal care such as washing, dressing, and grooming while maintaining client dignity.
- Perform neurogenic bowel and catheter care, including catheter flushing, once trained and certified.
- Administer prescribed medications following training and authorization.
- Support clients with nutrition either orally or through PEG feeding tubes when applicable.
- Monitor skin health and assist clients in repositioning to avoid pressure injuries.
- Use hoists and specialized equipment for safe mobilization and daily activities.
- Encourage engagement in daily routines, exercises, and meaningful activities.
- Document care provided with clear and concise notes.
- Report any changes in client health status promptly to nurses or office personnel.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in caregiving environments such as homecare, hospitals, or nursing homes.
- Possession of QQI Level 5 Healthcare certification is beneficial but not mandatory; support to obtain it will be provided.
- A calm, compassionate, and dependable approach, comfortable with complex care needs.
- Ability to adhere to care plans and maintain clear, simple documentation in English.
- Physical capacity to handle the demands of the role.
Why This Opportunity Is Impactful
Many individuals with spinal cord injuries remain in clinical settings simply due to the shortage of nearby qualified carers. This position contributes to transforming lives by enabling home-based care and independence.
Diversity and Inclusion
The employer is fully committed to equal opportunity employment and will provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process to accommodate applicants' needs.
