Job description

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Person in Charge (PIC) to lead a small, specialized residential service focused on children in Kilkenny. This leadership role offers the chance to shape a newly established service committed to delivering a safe, person-centered environment that encourages growth, independence, and meaningful community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all care decisions prioritize the dignity, rights, preferences, and wellbeing of individuals supported.
  • Manage assessments, development of care plans, regular reviews, transitions, and provision of support services.
  • Champion positive outcomes including inclusion in the community, independence, and enhanced quality of life.
  • Forge and maintain strong relationships with families, advocates, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead and inspire a team comprised of Social Care Workers and Support Workers.
  • Deliver supervision, coaching, performance evaluation, and promote continuous professional growth.
  • Encourage use of positive behaviour support, reflective practice, and trauma-informed care approaches.
  • Manage staffing effectively with an emphasis on resource allocation and fostering a positive work culture centered on excellence in care.
  • Ensure compliance with HIQA standards, organisational policies, and governance requirements.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and superior service delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with families, social workers, clinicians, external professionals, and leadership teams.
  • Contribute to organisational development and innovation in disability services.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess at least a QQI Level 7 or 8 qualification in Social Care, Social Work, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Must be registered with CORU or NMBI where applicable.
  • Hold a QQI Level 6 or higher qualification in Health or Social Care Management.
  • Have a minimum of three years' experience working within residential care settings.
  • Minimum three years in leadership roles such as supervisory, team leader, deputy manager, PIC, or management positions.
  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of HIQA regulations, safeguarding practices, and person-centred care.
  • Experience leading teams and implementing quality improvements.
  • Beneficial to have experience in establishing or transitioning residential services and supporting individuals with complex needs.
  • Training or expertise in Positive Behaviour Support, Autism Practice, or Trauma-Informed Care is a plus.
  • Hold a full clean driving licence.
