Position Overview
This temporary remote role is designed for individuals interested in healthcare information management and medical records processing. The Health Information Specialist 1 will be responsible for the accurate, secure handling of patient health information while adhering to privacy regulations and healthcare compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process patient health information requests in line with policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all disclosures of medical records conform to authorization and HIPAA privacy standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information throughout all stages of handling.
- Manage communications with patients, insurance providers, attorneys, and authorized parties concerning medical record statuses via inbound and outbound calls.
- Retrieve, organize, prepare, and transmit medical records using appropriate systems and channels.
- Maintain precise documentation across various electronic health record platforms.
- Prepare patient charts and organize records methodically, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Create digital images of paper records to store within electronic systems.
- Support administrative functions such as data entry, fax management, mail handling, and scheduling record pickups.
- Meet set productivity, quality, and service standards while effectively managing workload priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve workflow issues and enhance operational efficiency.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum education: high school diploma or GED.
- Proficient with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, and familiarity with office equipment like phones, fax machines, and printers.
- Strong accuracy and quality focus in data entry tasks.
- Capable of multitasking, prioritizing assignments, and working independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to perform efficiently in a high-volume production setting.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Adaptable to shifting priorities and operational changes.
- Experience in healthcare, medical records, customer service, or administrative roles is advantageous.
- Familiarity with productivity metrics, process improvements, or client-facing roles is a plus.

- Full-time temporary position expected to last up to 6 months.
- Regular weekday schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM PST.
