Job description
About Teamshares
Teamshares is a purpose-led startup that acquires small businesses from owners who are retiring and converts them into lasting employee-owned companies using its software, training, and community offerings. The company was created to solve a major gap in the U.S. economy, where small businesses account for 98% of all firms and previously had no simple path to employee ownership.
About the Role
Teamshares is hiring a Financial Performance Portfolio Operations Lead to help expand the way financial performance is managed across a portfolio of roughly 90 network companies. This is a portfolio-level, infrastructure-focused position centered on strengthening systems, data foundations, and operating models so the Financial Performance team can work more consistently and efficiently across the entire network.
Reporting to the VP of Financial Performance, you will work where data, operations, and product meet. The role involves transforming raw inputs into dependable insights, creating scalable workflows that can be applied across companies, and collaborating with the product team to make sure the tools developed are actually adopted. It suits someone who is comfortable both digging into data details and engaging confidently with multiple stakeholders.
Scaling Operations & Systems
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine the operating backbone that enables Teamshares’ Financial Performance approach to scale across the portfolio.
- Spot friction points, duplicate steps, and workflow gaps in how financial performance work is completed, then fix the underlying process rather than applying temporary workarounds.
- Create and update playbooks, templates, and frameworks that make financial performance support consistent and repeatable across network companies.
- Work alongside Operations Leads and Industry Leads to embed scalable practices into day-to-day work with company presidents.
Data Strategy & Quality
- Lead efforts to unlock, clean up, and strategically use portfolio data.
- Review and strengthen data pipelines, definitions, and collection methods to improve consistency and accuracy in network company reporting.
- Set and uphold data quality standards with Finance, Product, and Operations, treating clean data as a core operating discipline.
- Build the analytical foundation that makes portfolio-wide trends, risks, and opportunities visible and useful for leadership.
Strategic Planning Support
- Help run the operational side of the annual and mid-year strategic planning cycles so network companies participate meaningfully and plans stay on track.
- Build the systems that make planning efficient and scalable, including templates, timelines, and accountability structures.
- Consolidate planning outputs into portfolio-level views that support resource allocation and executive decisions.
Strategic Planning & Performance Reporting
- Support the execution of annual and mid-year strategic planning cycles and make sure network companies engage meaningfully.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure for planning and reporting that is efficient, consistent, and actionable, including KPI frameworks and MD&A reporting.
- Turn planning outputs into portfolio-wide views that guide resource allocation and leadership choices.
- Move the team from reactive reporting toward forward-looking performance monitoring.
- Ensure reporting schedules, formats, and outputs create a strong feedback loop between network companies and Teamshares that supports growth and improves operational performance.
Product Partnership & Tool Adoption
- Act as the main Financial Performance representative in product roadmap discussions, translating field challenges and portfolio needs into clear, prioritized product requests.
- Partner with product teams to shape meaningful roadmap items and ensure Financial Performance workflows are properly reflected in what gets built.
- Increase adoption of Teamshares’ financial and operational tools across network companies and flag adoption barriers back to the product team.
- Close the gap between product release and real-world usage so new features lead to measurable changes in behavior.
Required Background
- At least 2 years of operating and project leadership experience in a trades-based business, home services company, or large general contracting environment.
- Ability to build trust with operators and field teams, with enough practical understanding of trades businesses to speak credibly with experienced leaders.
- Strong bias toward action: you move quickly, keep commitments, and take initiative once direction is set.
- Solid project management ability with the discipline to handle several workstreams across multiple companies at once.
- Comfort working in ambiguity and helping shape an operating model that is still being developed.
- Willingness to travel more than half the time, including extended on-site time during active engagements.
- Analytical capability to interpret a P&L, identify operating signals in the data, and spot issues before they become urgent, even if financial modeling is not your main strength.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in strategy, operations, FP&A, or a closely related function.
- Strong experience working with data at scale, including quality audits, pipeline improvements, framework development, and converting complex information into clear insights.
- Ability to operate cross-functionally and keep momentum across Product, Finance, and Operations without direct authority.
- Comfort with uncertainty and the ability to shift between high-level strategy and detailed execution as needed.
- Strong analytical ability, with fluency in Excel or Google Sheets; familiarity with AI-based workflow automation, BI tools such as Looker or Tableau, and SQL is a plus.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to turn complexity into executive-ready materials and practical guidance.
- Entrepreneurial approach: you build what is missing and improve what exists without needing to be prompted.
Preferred Experience
- Background in a portfolio company, multi-unit operations, private equity operations, or management consulting.
- Understanding of small business financial operations, including P&Ls, cash flow, and operational KPIs.
- Experience shaping product roadmaps and partnering with engineering or product teams on tool adoption.
- Experience building or improving financial reporting systems such as data models, dashboards, or automated reporting pipelines.
