Role overview

APM is seeking an Employment Consultant for its Gladstone, Queensland site as part of the Inclusive Employment Australia Program. This position suits someone who enjoys combining one-to-one support, employer engagement, sales activity and administration to help people with disability and other barriers move into meaningful work and greater independence.

APM is a global health and human services organisation that has been changing lives since 1994. With a workforce of about 16,000 people across 11 countries, the organisation focuses on helping people of all abilities live more independent and rewarding lives, while offering development and career growth across its wider network.

What the role involves

This is a varied, hands-on role that requires a balance of participant support and proactive business development. You will help people become work-ready, connect them with employers, and contribute to lasting employment outcomes.

  • Support participants, including those affected by disability, injury or long-term unemployment, as they prepare for work.
  • Promote candidates to employers and create new job opportunities.
  • Develop strong local employer relationships that lead to sustainable placements.
  • Balance participant support, employer outreach and delivery of employment outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Build trusted relationships with participants so you can understand their career goals and help set them up for success.
  • Coach participants to improve job readiness, interview confidence and overall competitiveness.
  • Help with resumes, interview preparation, job search planning and access to training or upskilling options.
  • Work actively to secure placements by advocating for participants with employers.
  • Generate opportunities through cold calling, employer visits and in-person engagement with businesses.
  • Maintain a healthy employer pipeline and convert prospects into actual vacancies and placements.
  • Spot hidden job opportunities through proactive business development.
  • Present candidates with confidence and align their strengths to employer needs.
  • Influence recruitment decisions by explaining the business and social value of inclusive hiring.
  • Negotiate job trials, work experience opportunities and wage subsidies where needed.
  • Develop and sustain employer relationships to encourage repeat vacancies and ongoing business.
  • Meet and exceed KPIs related to placements, engagement and activity.
  • Hold regular appointments and monitor participant progress toward employment outcomes.
  • Handle compliance, records and data entry in line with program rules.
  • Track performance against targets and work toward employment outcome goals.
  • Recognise milestones and successful placements to keep participants motivated and engaged.

What success looks like

  • Strong employment outcomes for participants.
  • A steadily expanding network of engaged local employers.
  • Reliable achievement of KPIs and performance targets.
  • Long-term placements that create a real difference in people’s lives.

About you

You will likely thrive in this role if you are confident building relationships and comfortable speaking with employers. Experience in sales, business development, recruitment or other client-facing roles will be highly relevant, along with resilience, organisation and a strong drive to achieve outcomes.

  • You communicate well and build relationships naturally, including with employers.
  • You have experience in sales, business development, recruitment or customer-facing work.
  • You are motivated by helping people overcome barriers to employment.
  • You stay resilient and target-focused.
  • You can organise competing priorities and manage your workload effectively.

Why this role may suit you

This is more than a desk-based job. The position is focused on removing barriers, opening doors and helping people with disability secure and sustain employment.

  • Competitive base pay plus performance incentives.
  • Training and career development opportunities.
  • A supportive, inclusive team culture where your work has visible impact.
  • Recognition of achievements through team events and celebrations.
  • Employee Assistance Program for wellbeing support.
  • Purchased Annual Leave option.

  • Access to a funded Certificate IV in Community Services or Mental Health Peer Support, subject to eligibility.
  • Service recognition.
