Overview

The Director of Business Development plays a crucial role in propelling strategic revenue growth by pinpointing, cultivating, and securing fresh business prospects across vital markets and client segments. This leadership position guides the company's business development vision, aiming to build enduring customer connections, expand market presence, and collaborate cross-functionally to implement profitable expansion strategies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement business development plans that align with the organization's growth targets.
  • Discover new market opportunities, customer categories, and product areas to boost revenue streams.
  • Create and sustain a strong pipeline of potential clients and strategic alliances.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and client requirements to uncover growth potentials.
  • Lead initiatives to onboard new customers and grow existing strategic partnerships.
  • Develop proposals, presentations, pricing models, and business cases optimized for profitability.
  • Conduct negotiations for complex commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Ensure fulfillment of yearly revenue, margin, and customer acquisition goals.
  • Collaborate with Sales Leadership to facilitate smooth onboarding of new clients.
  • Cultivate executive-level relationships with retailers, distributors, manufacturers, and partners.
  • Represent the company at client meetings, industry conferences, and networking events.
  • Act as a trusted consultant by aligning solutions with customer business goals.
  • Maintain superior customer satisfaction throughout the sales process.
  • Work with executive leadership on long-range growth planning and assess acquisition or partnership opportunities.
  • Assist with strategic planning and forecasting activities.
  • Recommend investment decisions based on market insights and anticipated returns.
  • Partner internally with Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, Product Development, and Customer Service to ensure successful project execution.
  • Coordinate resources for customer implementations and product launches.
  • Confirm operational preparedness for new client programs.
  • Establish KPIs to track pipeline status, sales conversion rates, customer acquisition, and revenue development.
  • Analyze sales and market performance to identify ongoing opportunities.
  • Prepare executive reports and presentations on business development outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasting and CRM data.
  • Guide and mentor the business development team fostering collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
  • Promote continuous improvement and best practices within the sales function.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related discipline is required; MBA is preferred.
  • At least 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in business development, sales, or commercial leadership roles.
  • Strong background in wholesale distribution, consumer packaged goods (CPG), retail, or related sectors is highly preferred.
  • Proven track record in acquiring national accounts and forming strategic partnerships.
  • Experience negotiating significant commercial contracts.
  • Ability to devise and implement growth strategies yielding measurable business gains.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, business insight, negotiation, and influencing capabilities.
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills suited to executives.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis and pricing strategy formulation.
  • Strong analytical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Work Schedule and Benefits

This remote role requires working Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time.

The salary range offered is $145,000 to $150,000 annually depending on experience.
