Position Overview

We are seeking a Child & Online Safety Expert to join our team on a contract basis. This role involves developing frameworks and standards to safeguard youth mental health in digital spaces, with a particular focus on prevention and intervention related to self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, and emotional dependency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive classification systems for issues such as self-harm, suicide prevention, eating disorders, and emotional dependency in digital platforms.
  • Set best-practice standards for digital support and clinical safety targeting adolescent mental health concerns.
  • Create frameworks for detecting, flagging, and assessing potentially harmful online content and advice aimed at minors experiencing mental-health crises.
  • Design clinical response guides and escalation procedures for at-risk individuals within digital environments.
  • Work closely with project leaders to ensure all evaluation criteria are aligned with the latest research and clinical best practices.
  • Provide expertise on policies related to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and online exploitation to strengthen child digital safety protocols.
  • Deliver clear, actionable feedback in both written and verbal formats to aid the continuous improvement of AI safety tools and related frameworks.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Substantial experience in adolescent mental health, suicide prevention, eating disorder intervention, or a closely related area.
  • Valid licensure as a therapist, psychiatrist, clinician, or mental-health professional with hands-on crisis care experience.
  • Proven skills in clinical risk assessment and intervention within online or digital settings.
  • Advanced degree, specialized certification, or equivalent experience in mental health or child safety sectors.
  • Experience with CSAM-related policy evaluation or active participation in child online exploitation prevention efforts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities, with a talent for simplifying complex topics for diverse audiences.

Additional Information

This is a remote position based in Costa Rica, with a commitment between 10 and 40 hours weekly. Compensation ranges from $50 to $90 per hour, reflecting expertise and experience levels.
