Job description
Role Overview
This position offers developmental care and educational support for children and youth aged from 6 weeks to 18 years within Child and Youth Services programs. The assistant actively monitors and ensures the safety of children during daily activities, including indoor and outdoor play, field trips, and special events.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver age-appropriate developmental care and learning experiences for children and youth.
- Maintain vigilant supervision of children and youth to guarantee their safety in all settings and activities.
- Support the implementation of structured activities, routines, and schedules, utilizing prepared lesson plans and materials.
- Help in organizing or providing nourishing snacks and meals.
- Recognize and appropriately respond to emergencies involving evacuation, health issues, and emotional or physical needs.
Employment Conditions and Requirements
- Must have a valid Social Security Card and enrollment in Direct Deposit.
- Age requirement: minimum 18 years old at appointment.
- A probation period of one year may apply.
- Successful completion of an employment verification check (E-Verify).
- Must undergo background checks due to regular contact with minors as per federal laws and Department of Defense instructions.
- Immunization compliance is mandatory, including influenza vaccination, with required physicals verifying freedom from communicable diseases.
- Physical capability to lift up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop, and stand regularly (particularly in Child Development Center roles).
- Visual and auditory acuity required for effective child supervision and adherence to safety standards.
- Legal obligation to report suspected child abuse or neglect.
- Completion of orientation and ongoing training mandated by Department of the Army and service guidelines, maintaining current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with indoor and outdoor duties plus occasional field trips.
Qualifications and Education
- Minimum educational requirement: high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
- Experience and training criteria vary by level:
- Entry Level (CY-01): age 18+, high school diploma/GED, basic communication skills.
- Skill Level (CY-01): prior 6 months group program experience, completion of standardized or equivalent training or 6 college semester hours related to childhood development.
- Target Level (CY-02): at least 12 months relevant experience and knowledge of child development theories, completion of advanced training or accredited credentials, or 12 college semester hours in specialized education fields.
- Applicants may need to provide transcripts or certificates to verify qualifications beyond entry level.
