Child and Youth Program Assistant CY-01/02

Overview

This position involves providing comprehensive developmental care and instruction to children and youth aged from 6 weeks up to 18 years, in Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs. The role requires active supervision to safeguard the welfare of children during various daily programs, including indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, and special events.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver appropriate developmental support and education to children and youth at different stages.
• Maintain vigilant supervision and ensure safety and accountability of children throughout routines and activities.
• Support the implementation of structured, age-appropriate activities and routines using established curriculum and materials for individual and group engagement.
• Assist in coordinating and providing snacks or meals in line with program guidelines.
• Recognize and respond promptly to emergencies such as evacuations, illnesses, and physical or emotional needs of children and youth.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of hiring.
• A high school diploma or equivalent credential is mandatory.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
• Possess a Social Security Card and have direct deposit capabilities.
• Subject to background checks and immunization requirements appropriate for working with children, including current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Physical capabilities include lifting up to 40 pounds and visual/auditory abilities necessary for full supervision.
• Mental and legal responsibilities include mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect.
• Completion of Department of the Army and service-specific trainings within prescribed timelines, including annual updates, is essential.
• Some roles may require working varied schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays, indoors and outdoors, with occasional field trips.
• Experience varies by level: entry requires no experience beyond education, skill level requires minimum 6 months relevant experience or equivalent training/college credits, and target level requires 12 months experience plus certifications or college credits in related fields.

Education Criteria

A General Education Diploma (GED) or high school diploma is required, with additional college coursework or certification necessary for higher levels. Documentation and transcripts must be in English or accompanied by certified translations.
