Overview
The Risk department at Goldman Sachs designs and operates thorough methodologies to identify, evaluate, and manage risks from anticipated and unforeseen events that could negatively affect the firm. Members of the Risk team handle daily risk management duties, lead initiatives, and help advance an effective risk management framework. Strong collaboration with executives, business units, controls, and technology teams is essential.
Capital Risk Function
Within the second line of defense and reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the Capital Risk team supervises the firm's capital management policies, regulatory capital standards, and interpretations, escalating key interpretations to senior leaders or risk committees. The scope includes independent evaluation of capital ratio goals, planned capital moves, regulatory capital computation, documentation review, independent testing, and ensuring calculations comply with regulatory capital rules.
Key Responsibilities
- Gain comprehensive understanding of capital regulations such as PRA Basel 3.1 and US capital rules, formulating suitable capital interpretations
- Monitor and evaluate impacts and risk appetite related to regulatory capital rule implementations
- Analyze effects of capital regulation on transactions, new products, and business plans
- Validate regulatory capital requirement methodologies and calculations
- Critically review and challenge the firm's capital management strategies
- Provide well-reasoned analysis on complex regulatory capital issues to senior management, business units, and regulators
Required Skills and Experience
- At least 3 years' relevant experience within the PRA, European regulators, or banking institutions with permissions for IRB/IMM/IMA approaches
- Exceptional attention to detail accompanied by intellectual curiosity and dedication to quality
- Strong organizational ability to manage numerous and shifting projects and priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Collaborative team player maintaining supportive relationships within a high-profile environment
- Highly self-driven, proactive in taking on additional tasks, decisively addressing issues
- Capability to conduct in-depth research, analyze complex regulatory documents, and discern pertinent issues
- Solid understanding of banking institutions and financial products, with skill to appraise new trades and business opportunities focusing on regulatory capital impact
