Role Summary
This position sits within the Risk Division, which acts as the firm’s second line of defense. The team works to identify, anticipate, quantify, and reduce the range of risks involved in serving clients and running global businesses. The function is focused on building a clear view of the firm’s risk profile and shaping controls that help protect the firm’s ability to operate and serve clients in global financial markets.
Market Risk Team
Market Risk Specialists are responsible for implementing the firm’s market risk appetite in a disciplined way, maintaining strong risk management standards, and supporting regulatory compliance across market risk activities. Their work relies on judgement, specialist knowledge, and practical risk tools such as limit setting. The role centers on analysis, transparency, escalation, supervision, and ongoing process improvement.
This opportunity is focused on the Commodities business, including Oil, Metals, and Power. The role offers close collaboration with teams across regions and departments, creating a varied environment with broad exposure to the firm’s operations and markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess market risk-taking behavior through portfolio- and transaction-level analysis, and help shape risk limits and calibrations.
- Study market developments and events that may affect financial markets and evaluate the impact on the firm’s portfolios.
- Carry out proactive stress testing ahead of significant market events.
- Escalate issues quickly and clearly to senior management.
- Support the rollout of new risk measures and strengthen existing controls, while communicating risk-related matters directly to senior stakeholders.
- Review trading activity critically and work effectively with traders and bankers.
- Track compliance with approved risk limits and ensure material risks are communicated to senior management.
- Share responsibility for approving new products through the Market Risk approval process for the relevant businesses.
- Work at the point where risk appetite meets commercial activity.
- Help improve commercial outcomes and team performance within a strong control framework.
Required Profile
- A strong academic background with a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent/higher qualification in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or another quantitative or analytical field is preferred.
- Prior experience in commodities markets and familiarity with financial products, including derivatives and greeks, is desirable.
- Coding skills would be an added advantage.
- Ability to work collaboratively across functions and with colleagues at different seniority levels.
- Comfort communicating complex information directly to senior management.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant industry experience.
