Job description
Division Overview
The Global Strategic Advisory Department (GSAD) specializes in offering both fee-based and non-fee-based advisory services. The team supports clients in overseas expansion and business development by providing comprehensive investment-related insights. Acting as the in-house advisory arm of Mizuho Bank, GSAD plays a vital role in assisting clients from the early investment stages and generating new business opportunities, thereby differentiating the Mizuho group from other banks.
The Singapore office focuses on advisory support linked to overseas growth, business restructuring, and direct investments for Japanese (JP) and non-Japanese (NJP) firms within the APAC territory. This is achieved through close collaboration with internal APAC teams, GSAD headquarters in Japan, and external partners, aiming to increase banking transactions and deepen client relations across the region.
Company Background
Mizuho Bank is a subsidiary of Mizuho Financial Group, one of the world's largest banks ranked 15th globally with total assets of around 2 trillion USD. Operating through over 800 offices worldwide and employing 55,000 staff, the bank provides extensive financial services across key geographies including Americas, EMEA, and Asia. The Singapore branch has been a vital regional hub for more than 50 years, offering a full bank license and servicing over 2,000 Japanese and international corporate customers with varied financial solutions such as corporate finance, trade finance, cash management, and project finance.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver advisory and business development services primarily for non-Japanese clients across APAC, with an emphasis on East Asian companies expanding in the region.
- Provide support for initiatives like investments from Chinese firms into ASEAN and thematic strategies involving Chinese OEMs and auto finance sectors.
- Create detailed pitch materials and collaborate with divisions like Industrial Research and Asia Pacific Corporate Department to enhance client outreach.
- Engage similarly with Taiwanese clients expanding to India and participate in ad hoc projects or emerging thematic business activities.
- For Japanese clients, partner with Relationship Managers to develop fee and non-fee advisory solutions focused on Japanese Regional Headquarters in Singapore and broader APAC research/consulting projects.
- Lead and execute client projects initiated by GSAD headquarters aimed at business expansion within Singapore.
- At the Assistant Vice President level, facilitate coordination between Relationship Managers across Asia and GSAD Japan, deliver APAC business intelligence, and provide strategic advisory services including market entry, corporate strategy, and M&A origination under Section Head oversight.
- For Vice Presidents, play a key role in knowledge management and coordination across APAC, leading advisory projects, forging alliances between Japanese and non-Japanese clients, integrating external expert input, and mentoring junior team members.
Job Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years relevant experience for Assistant Vice President or 8 years for Vice President in business consulting or sector-specific research analysis in areas such as finance, economics, or business.
- Desirable experience includes advisory work related to M&A origination or supporting foreign direct investment with clients through business matching or corporate strategy development.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Fluency in English is essential, with preference given to candidates who also speak Chinese due to extensive communication with clients in China.
- Business-level Japanese language skills are advantageous for engaging with Japanese clients and document review.
- Willingness to travel within the APAC region, including East Asia, Southeast Asia, India, Oceania, and Japan.
