Vice President of Finance

Overview

Retail Sports Management (RSM), located in Charlotte, North Carolina, is seeking a strategic and engaged Vice President of Finance to join its executive leadership team. This leader will guide the finance function to enhance organizational growth through improved financial transparency, operational discipline, and data-driven decisions. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who excels in structuring finance functions, enhancing business performance, and collaborating closely with operations and senior leadership to influence growth, profitability, and long-term planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a strategic partner within the leadership team to drive the formation of the company's financial strategy and long-term business planning.
• Manage all essential finance operations such as budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight, and periodic financial reporting.
• Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and vendor payments ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to financial discipline.
• Implement and sustain financial controls, policies, and procedures that enhance operational efficiency and safeguard profitability.
• Lead the transition and management of the month-end close process from external accountants to an efficient and scalable internal finance function.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to review business performance and assist decision-making related to pricing, staffing, growth initiatives, client strategy, and corporate transactions.
• Prepare and deliver financial summaries and updates to leadership and board-level stakeholders.
• Analyze client, project, and service line profitability to uncover trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Create and maintain financial models and scenario analyses supporting planning, hiring, and expansion activities.
• Provide financial evaluations on contracts, partnerships, and new ventures to support informed decisions.
• Offer actionable insights on margin influencers, cost structures, and resource utilization to boost overall business results.
• Work cross-functionally with accounts and production teams to synchronize financial plans with operational goals.
• Lead, develop, and mentor the Finance team while building strong partnerships across departments.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance and/or accounting, including at least 3 years in senior leadership roles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline.
• Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial reporting, financial controls, and planning.
• Proven skills in interpreting financial data into actionable business insights and strategic recommendations.
• Experience building or enhancing finance processes, reporting structures, workflows, and systems with hands-on leadership involvement.
• Competence with accounting software and advanced spreadsheet tools; familiarity with QuickBooks, HubSpot, and ADP is advantageous.
• Background in supporting mergers and acquisitions, post-close integration, exit preparations, board reporting, and investor communications is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in agency environments, project-based services, professional services, sports marketing, or retail marketing sectors.
• Exposure to start-ups, entrepreneurial ventures, or small growing organizations is beneficial.
• Involvement in leading or supporting ERP, financial system, or other business reporting platform implementations.
• Qualifications such as CPA, MBA, or an equivalent combination of education and experience are a plus but not mandatory.
