Role Overview
Temasek is hiring an Assistant Vice President for Sustainability Strategy, focused on Policy & Insights. Reporting to the Director of Sustainability Strategy, this role is responsible for tracking major shifts in global sustainability policy and regulation and turning those developments into practical strategic guidance. The position works across the Sustainability Group, partnering with climate, nature, and social leads to connect policy foresight with thematic strategy, while helping strengthen Temasek’s position in sustainability thought leadership and advocacy.
Sustainability Group Context
The Sustainability Group works across Temasek and its wider ecosystem to support a climate-resilient, net zero portfolio and to enable nature-positive and inclusive growth. The group also identifies sustainability-linked business opportunities, advances thought leadership and engagement, and supports Temasek’s development as a sustainable organisation.
- Sustainability Strategy: advances strategy and policy for net zero, nature positive, and inclusive growth, along with institutional and community sustainability efforts.
- Sustainable Solutions: supports decarbonisation in portfolio companies and explores investment opportunities tied to sustainable living themes.
- ESG Investment Management: strengthens ESG integration across the investment process and portfolio engagement.
- Ecosperity: drives year-round engagement, advocacy, and sustainability thought leadership through the Ecosperity platform.
Responsibilities
- Track and evaluate sustainability-related policy, regulation, frameworks, and market developments globally, including peer comparisons, to surface risks, opportunities, and cross-cutting implications.
- Convert research findings into clear recommendations that can guide leadership decisions and investment strategy.
- Build and update foresight tools such as dashboards, policy positions, and executive briefing packs to support reviews and decision-making.
- Work closely with thematic leads across climate, nature, and social areas to bring policy intelligence into strategy design, advocacy, and execution.
- Support Temasek’s participation in global networks and coalition-based external engagement.
- Help strengthen internal capability by incorporating policy insights into management training, board materials, and advisory panel programmes.
Requirements
- A degree in Sustainability, Finance, Economics, Public Policy, or a closely related field is preferred.
- At least 8 years of experience in sustainability policy, strategy, or regulatory analysis, ideally within financial institutions, consulting, or multilateral organisations.
- Strong working knowledge of international sustainability frameworks and regulations, such as ISSB, CSRD, SBTi, TNFD, EU rules, and carbon markets.
- Proven ability to scan the horizon, benchmark peers, analyse large volumes of information, and turn findings into actionable business insights.
- Exposure to AI-enabled research or analytics tools and productivity software would be an advantage.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills, with a high level of precision when presenting complex ideas.
- A collaborative, inquisitive, and adaptable approach, with the ability to work effectively across varied teams in a dynamic environment.
