Job description
Overview
The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board invites applications exclusively from currently employed staff within the organisation for the role of Addiction Liaison Nurse. This position is a fixed-term or secondment contract lasting six months until January 30, 2027, covering an internal vacancy. The post mainly operates at the Grange University Hospital (GUH) but may require travel to other sites and attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings.
Role Purpose
The Addiction Liaison Nurse will provide specialist advice and interventions related to addiction services, focusing on service users primarily in inpatient settings across ABUHB. Responsibilities include thoroughly assessing individual needs, outlining care options, arranging and reviewing suitable care packages, and guiding patients to appropriate services. The role supports the Addiction Liaison Team, which manages patients presenting in hospital settings or referred for inpatient treatment with a history of substance use. This service involves creating detailed and robust care plans addressing the psychosocial needs of service users to foster positive change.
Main Duties
- Work collaboratively with senior clinicians and medical staff within ABSDAS to offer treatment advice and support for hospital patients with substance use concerns.
- Coordinate inpatient treatment processes, especially for patients on waiting lists for ABSDAS inpatient services.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of service users’ physical and psychological well-being alongside their substance use.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings concerning patient care plans.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will hold RMN or RGN registration with a minimum of 12 months post-registration experience. Experience or qualification in substance use is preferred, as is familiarity with working in addiction services. Essential skills include knowledge of national addiction policies and frameworks; understanding of MAPPA is advantageous. Welsh language ability is desirable but not essential, with equal consideration given to English or Welsh speakers.
Additional Information and Support
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is committed to diversity, encouraging applications from all individuals including those with protected characteristics, disabled and neurodiverse candidates, and members of the Armed Forces community. Applications in Welsh are welcomed and will be treated equally. Applicants may discuss any required adjustments or support for the application and selection processes confidentially with the relevant manager. The Health Board supports flexible working arrangements where possible, and all grounds are smoke-free in compliance with legal requirements.
