About the Role
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking a dedicated and highly organised medical secretary to provide extensive administrative support to the Neurology service. This position requires working closely with the Neurology Improvement Manager and the broader team to deliver a confidential secretarial service to Neurology consultants and staff. The successful candidate must be self-driven, capable of managing their workload independently, and possess strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant databases. Effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as a flexible and prioritisation-focused approach, are essential for success in this role.
Main Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive and confidential secretarial services to the Neurology department.
- Perform tasks as designated by the Business Support Manager.
- Assist managers and staff with managing waiting lists and optimizing clinic utilization.
- Utilize strong computer literacy skills for Microsoft Office and applicable databases.
- Work autonomously while adhering to established policies and procedures.
Candidate Requirements
- O Levels or equivalent academic qualifications.
- Vocational Level 3 certification or equivalent.
- RSA Level III certification.
- Experience working within the NHS environment.
- Familiarity with WPAS (Waiting Patient Administration System).
Desirable: Progress towards a medical secretarial qualification and previous experience as a medical secretary are advantageous. Ability to speak Welsh is also desirable, though applications are welcome from both Welsh and English speakers equally.

Salary and Terms
The salary corresponds to Band 3 under the NHS Agenda for Change pay scales, updated for 2026/2027 with implementation and backdating effective from April 1, 2026.
