Role Summary

The Youth Justice Coordinator will oversee Family Group Conferences (FGCs) as mandated by the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989. This role involves collaborating with children, young people, their whānau, and the broader community to address root causes of offending behaviour. A restorative and mana-enhancing approach is essential, utilizing community knowledge and resources to foster an offending-free future for tamariki and rangatahi. This position demands flexibility, including travel within the region and occasional overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage FGCs adhering to statutory requirements.
• Engage proactively with tamariki, rangatahi, whānau, and community participants to develop supportive plans.
• Utilize knowledge of community networks to facilitate restorative solutions.
• Support a mana-enhancing environment throughout all interventions.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant is energetic, adaptable, and experienced in frontline service delivery with proven skills in forming strategic community relationships.

• Established youth community networks and ability to build trust with young people and families.
• Strong facilitation and planning skills aligned with FGC standards and practices.
• Experience working with youth aged 14-18 years.
• Self-motivated with excellent workload management and clear communication skills, including proficient report writing.
• Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi in practice.
• Valid, clean New Zealand driver’s license.
• Cultural competence especially regarding tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ customs.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time permanent role offering competitive remuneration ranging from $84,491 to $98,674 annually based on experience. The package includes opportunities for annual progression based on tenure, flexible work options, and a supportive team environment committed to wellbeing. • Work is primary to both Palmerston North and Masterton requiring regional travel and potential overnight stays.
