Position overview
The Philipps University of Marburg, founded in 1527, is known for award-winning teaching, serving around 22,000 students, and for strong research across a wide range of disciplines. At the Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology, Department of Neurophysiology, there is a permanent opening from 01.10.2026 for either one full-time role or two permanent part-time positions at 50% of regular working time.
The role is classified under pay grade E 13 of the Hessen state collective agreement.
Key responsibilities
- Provide academic services in both research and teaching.
- Contribute to the curriculum-based teaching of Human Medicine, Dentistry, and Human Biology, including responsibility for organising, shaping the content of, and continuously improving courses and teaching formats.
- Conduct state examination assessments in Human Medicine and Dentistry (M1 and ZM1).
- Independently design, plan, and carry out research projects in cellular neurophysiology.
- Secure third-party research funding.
- Supervise bachelor’s and master’s theses as well as doctoral researchers.
Candidate profile
- Completed university degree in a natural science or human medicine field (state examination, master’s degree, or equivalent) and a doctorate in medicine, human biology, biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline.
- Extensive hands-on teaching experience in human physiology across the full subject area, especially including M1 examinations conducted in German.
- Experience supervising theses and/or doctoral projects.
- Independent experimental research in sensory physiology/pathophysiology and/or molecular membrane physiology, demonstrated through publications.
- Strong methodological background in quantitative fluorescence microscopy (e.g. LSM, TIRF, FRET, genetically encoded sensors).
- Practical knowledge of electrophysiological techniques such as patch clamp, plus routine experience with cell biology, protein biochemistry, and molecular biology methods.

Employment is permanent. The position can be filled as one full-time post or as two permanent part-time positions at 50% each. Part-time employment and a reduction in working hours are generally possible.
Salary is based on pay grade E 13 TV-H.
