Job description

Position Overview

The Philipps-Universität Marburg, founded in 1527, is seeking a third-party funded full-time postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Physics, working group Molecular Solid-State Physics. The position begins on 01.09.2026 and is limited until 31.01.2027, unless prior qualifying time must be credited. The role is graded at E 13 under the Hessian collective agreement.

Workload: full time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research-focused scientific services within the project.
  • Develop and refine an apparatus for micro-positioning crystals and for producing stacked heterostructure systems.
  • Take on project coordination, including supervision of student theses and organization of component development and fabrication through in-house workshops.

Additional Information

This is a temporary qualification position intended to support the acquisition of further scientific expertise. Within the assigned duties, the role offers scope for independent research work that contributes to the candidate’s own academic development. The fixed-term appointment is based on Section 2(1) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).

Requirements

  • Completed university degree in Physics at diploma, master’s, or an equivalent level, together with a completed doctorate.
  • Strong knowledge of ultrahigh-vacuum technology, surface physics, and thin-film preparation.
  • Experience in designing and constructing tools for positioning microscopic objects.
  • Experience with computer-assisted measurement data acquisition and process control.
  • Willingness to pursue further scientific qualification.
