Position overview

The Faculty of Economics and Management Science at Leipzig University, specifically the Institute for Management Accounting, Finance and Taxation, is looking to appoint a scientific staff member. The Institute for Management Accounting, Finance and Taxation brings together management accounting and internal accounting, corporate tax law, external accounting and auditing, as well as finance and investment in research and teaching. It serves many bachelor’s and master’s programmes and works on current issues in accounting, finance, and taxation. The advertised position is embedded in an interdisciplinary, research-oriented setting with strong opportunities for academic development and collaboration with practice and research partners.

Key duties

• Deliver teaching, usually around 8 semester hours per week, in core compulsory modules such as accounting basics, in both German and English.
• Create modern teaching formats, for example on ESG, sustainability, and digitalisation.
• Help further develop the curriculum and establish AI-supported teaching content.
• Publish research in recognised scholarly journals.
• Contribute to externally funded projects and support the development of research infrastructure.
• Help strengthen the university’s profile in sustainability reporting, digitalisation, and ESG.
• Carry out interdisciplinary research related to global transformation processes.
• Build and maintain industry and practice networks with companies and external partners.
• Co-design knowledge transfer projects and practice-oriented teaching formats.
• Participate in committees and working groups.
• Support early-career researchers and take on research coordination tasks.

Candidate profile

• A completed academic university degree in economics, business administration, or a related discipline.
• A completed doctorate plus additional scholarly achievements, such as relevant publications.
• Teaching aptitude and experience in pedagogy and didactics, ideally including international teaching experience in both German and English.
• Ability and willingness to independently develop and manage research priorities, third-party funded projects, and research infrastructure.
• Proven experience in obtaining and leading externally funded projects is desirable.
• Practice-oriented networking with business, audit firms, or other relevant partners is an advantage.
• Several years of research and teaching experience in external accounting, especially international financial reporting and sustainability reporting, or related areas is an advantage.
• Experience in university self-governance is desirable.
• Very strong spoken and written German and English skills.
