Role overview
Arlo Hotels is an independent lifestyle hotel group with seven properties spread across New York, Miami, Washington, D.C., and Chicago. The brand is looking for an energetic Vice President of Sales & Marketing who can lead with purpose, build strong relationships, and bring a creative, strategic approach to growth. In this role, you will define the brand’s sales direction, guide the marketing function, mentor emerging sales leaders, and personally manage key group, corporate, and consortia relationships to strengthen revenue and customer outcomes.
What you will do
- Set the brand’s sales and marketing priorities, including goals, budget planning, and marketing plans.
- Build deep knowledge of the hotels’ market position, seasonal patterns, pricing approach, and competitive advantages.
- Lead and coach sales team members across group, corporate, and consortia segments to deliver booking and revenue targets.
- Use market and economic insight to shape sales decisions and improve customer satisfaction.
- Create strategic action plans for demand drivers in each market.
- Deliver or surpass annual sales revenue and activity targets.
- Review and strengthen the brand’s presence across sales distribution channels.
- Work closely with Revenue Management on pricing, yield, business mix, group ceilings, BAR positioning, consortia and corporate rate loading, and channel strategy to maximize RevPAR and total revenue.
- Track and communicate progress on marketing plans, including key metrics, conversion performance, and return on investment.
- Manage the marketing budget and support property-specific campaigns, promotions, and collateral.
- Build alliances and partnerships that strengthen marketing efforts.
- Grow market share through hotel-specific promotions delivered through CRM tools or on-property communication channels.
- Partner with GMs, DOSs, and the home office on area marketing calendars, media plans, and supporting materials for area-wide initiatives.
- Design and run trade marketing programs aimed at corporate, consortia, and group buyers, including campaigns for TMCs, meeting planners, procurement teams, and corporate travel managers.
- Oversee consortia participation and activation, including placement, offers, rate loading, partner communication, and ROI tracking.
- Lead the group marketing program, including collateral, group offers, FAM trips, site inspection tools, and planner-facing content.
- Guide corporate account marketing, such as RFP strategy, preferred program positioning, and account-based marketing for top corporate and TMC accounts.
- Plan and manage the brand’s participation in major trade shows and client events to increase qualified leads and senior-buyer engagement.
- Build effective operating structures, processes, and performance management systems.
- Set expectations for direct reports, align incentives, address performance issues, and ensure accountability for results.
- Drive sales team productivity and ensure assignments are completed on time.
- Use Opera Sales & Catering and other company systems for required sales reporting, and prepare pre-trip and post-trip reporting for travel and trade show activity.
- Take part in monthly sales, revenue, and strategy meetings.
- Create and execute quarterly sales plans to grow existing key accounts, target new business, and expand strategic relationships across group, corporate, and consortia segments.
- Maintain strong visibility and positive relationships with relevant business organizations such as Downtown Alliance, HSMAI, CVB, NYC & Company, Chamber of Commerce, and local hotel/motel associations.
- Work with People Services to attract, develop, and retain diverse, high-performing talent and strengthen the future leadership pipeline.
Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of experience in sales leadership, with exposure to strategic sales and/or brand development.
- Strong existing network and active customer relationships across group, corporate, and consortia segments; luxury leisure relationships are a plus.
- Proven ability to create and execute sales and marketing strategies, with preferred experience in online marketing, advertising, and financial planning or budget management.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college, ideally in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel & Restaurant Management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting, motivating, training, retaining, and developing high-performing management and sales teams, including mentoring future senior leaders.
- Strong intellectual curiosity and analytical thinking.
- Advanced computer proficiency, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and Opera.
- Experience marketing luxury or lifestyle brands, preferably across multiple properties or markets.
- Solid financial planning and organizational ability.
- Ability to manage several projects at once and work effectively under time and resource constraints.
- Understanding of the travel industry, market trends, and economic influences.
- Capability to create and deliver persuasive sales presentations.
- Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, gather accurate information, and resolve conflicts.
