Job description

Role overview

This position is a Trust Doctor, non-training Level 2 post aligned to ST3 level and above. It sits within Acute Medicine at Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust and involves broad clinical responsibility across acute assessment, ward-based care, same-day emergency care, and internal medicine on-call duties.

The role is based in Dudley, England, United Kingdom and follows standard full-time, on-site working arrangements.

Main duties

  • Provide assessment and ongoing review for new admissions and acutely unwell patients in the Acute Medical Unit.
  • Carry out ward rounds, procedures, and support junior colleagues on the ward.
  • Review patients in Same Day Emergency Care, including new attendances and return visits.
  • See patients in the AMU / HOT clinic after investigations or following discharge.
  • Take part in the General (Internal) Medicine on-call rota and receive the appropriate pay for this work.
  • Contribute to clinical governance activities, including audits, service improvement work, and teaching rota duties.
  • Participate in continuing medical education and keep a portfolio suitable for revalidation.
  • Use the weekly four-hour specialty session to build skills in line with service needs, with possible exposure to areas such as medical high dependency or stroke.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including letters generated from clinical work.
  • Maintain all required mandatory training.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to improve and develop the service.
  • Undertake duties across wards, outpatient clinics, and operating theatres where required.
  • Support the Consultant and Registrar in theatre, including minor surgical procedures under supervision.
  • Monitor patients within the relevant department and follow their progress closely.
  • Request and interpret investigations with understanding, including support for decisions around invasive testing or device assessment.
  • Prepare electronic discharge documentation and TTO medication summaries, ideally in advance.
  • Take ownership of learning relevant to the post and participate in educational opportunities.
  • Arrange timely appraisal and assessment sessions with consultants for portfolio development.

Working pattern

The normal working day is 09:00 to 17:00 when based in the Acute Medicine Department, and 08:00 to 17:00 when working in Same Day Emergency Care.
