Job description

About the Role

As a Trainee in Global Markets Research & Strategy for a 12-month contract, you will collaborate closely with experienced quantitative analysts to support the development and automation of financial models, research infrastructure, and analytical tools that drive market research and strategic decision-making. The role emphasizes precision, mathematical rigor, and transparent communication, demanding both technical and analytical capabilities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Participate in designing, validating, and documenting quantitative models focused on financial market analysis, covering both returns and risks.
  • Ensure all assumptions and derivations are explicit, consistently documented, and allow for easy reproducibility.
  • Contribute to research with a high emphasis on accuracy, comprehensive sensitivity analysis, and clear communication on the degree of certainty in outcomes.
  • Support the automation of analytical processes and enhance research workflows, including the creation and upkeep of data visualization and statistical tools (primarily in R or Python).
  • Implement and maintain robust error handling, ensure version control, and promote reproducibility across research activities.
  • Develop tools for in-depth analysis of asset market dynamics, particularly under volatile or stressed scenarios.
  • Apply sound statistical methods, steering clear of unverified or ad hoc approaches and stating all underlying assumptions transparently.
  • Identify and evaluate trading opportunities using robust, data-driven frameworks, while supporting thematic research in areas like volatility, mean reversion, and cross-asset relationships, including the impacts of macroeconomic events.
  • Apply foundational derivatives knowledge where relevant, ensuring all analytical methodologies involving options are accurate and transparently explained.

Key Requirements

  • Advanced programming skills in R (preferred) or Python with the ability to write clear, well-documented, reproducible code.
  • Solid grounding in mathematics, including statistics, probability, optimization, and linear algebra.
  • Proficiency in financial markets concepts. A strong understanding of derivatives is advantageous.
  • Clear and logical communicator, capable of meticulously explaining methodologies, assumptions, and any uncertainties.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, particularly in documentation, code validation, and error checking.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Quantitative Finance, or related field). Candidates from other analytical backgrounds will be considered if they show strong programming and quantitative skills.
  • Prior experience in research environments (either academic or industry) is beneficial but not a strict requirement.

Operational and Personal Qualities

  • Genuine interest in financial markets, eager to engage with macroeconomic themes, market structures, and cross-asset dynamics.
  • Ability to methodically and transparently manage and analyze complex datasets relevant to macroeconomics and market behavior.
  • Consistently applies a disciplined and independent approach to work, maintaining accuracy and methodological integrity even under time constraints.
  • Committed to clear, organized, and non-speculative communication.

Working Environment & Culture

By joining, you will collaborate closely with a senior expert in quantitative analysis, well-versed in the demands for accuracy and methodological robustness within financial research. The organization promotes values such as commitment, responsibility, teamwork, and innovation, with a strong focus on ethics, inclusion, and collective success. Initiatives supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral to workplace culture. Accommodations during the recruitment process are available upon request.
